ERP suite versus operating record

NoxOrigin vs Odoo: a full ERP suite or one connected operating record

Odoo is an open-source business suite that can replace a stack of departmental software, including for Indian GST compliance. NoxOrigin is a narrower, cheaper, faster-to-configure product aimed at one job: keeping customer work, invoicing, and collection on a single record.

NoxOrigin makes one of the products compared in this article. We describe NoxOrigin from our own shipped product and published documentation, and Odoo only from Odoo’s own website and documentation. Last verified: 4 October 2026.

Evidence and method

What we tested, and what we only read

What we tested

NoxOrigin only. We use the product daily and we describe our published INR plans, the ten areas of the platform, and the capabilities on our own product and capability pages. We did not run an Odoo Online trial or a self-hosted Odoo deployment while writing this, so we make no claims about Odoo’s performance, support responsiveness, or usability.

What we source-verified

Odoo. We read Odoo’s pricing page, which also contains its pricing FAQ, and Odoo’s India fiscal localization documentation, both on 4 October 2026. Odoo loads its per-user prices dynamically by country, so we could not capture a current INR figure and we do not quote one. Check vendor pricing for the number that applies to you.

Dimension by dimension

What each product actually covers

Odoo does not sell a fixed package. You choose a hosting option and then install the apps you need, so the honest comparison is between scope and scope, not between two identical bundles.

Pricing modelPublished INR plans: Starter INR 800 per month, Growth INR 1,600 per month, Agency INR 5,000 per month, with annual billing at INR 8,000, INR 15,000, and INR 48,000. Extra users INR 500 per month per five, extra workspace INR 750 per month.Per-user, per-month plans on Odoo Online or Odoo.sh, with a cheaper Light User licence type, and a separate self-hosted Enterprise option. Prices vary by country and load dynamically. Check vendor pricing.
Open-source and self-hostingClosed product delivered by us as a hosted service, with dedicated or customer-branded deployments scoped as quotes. We do not offer a self-hosted edition.Odoo positions itself as open source and publishes a self-hosted Enterprise download, which its FAQ says is free for unlimited users once you host it yourself.
CRMCustomers and CRM area: companies, contacts, leads, opportunities, ownership, stages, next actions, and shared customer conversations in the Inbox.CRM is a core application, part of the standard set Odoo describes on its own site. Verify the pipeline and forecasting depth your team needs.
Projects and tasksProjects and Work area: projects, tasks, task lists, assignments, and recurring follow-ups, kept attached to the client and opportunity.Project management is a named application in Odoo’s own description of the suite. Test the task model against your delivery process.
QuotingQuotes raised against the client and project, converting to an invoice without re-keying.Sales quotations and orders are standard in the sales applications. Verify the flow from quotation to invoice in your configuration.
Invoicing and GSTGST invoices with automatic CGST and SGST splits for intra-state sales and IGST for inter-state, B2B invoices with GSTIN fields, and GST-wise tax reports.Indian Accounting, Indian E-invoicing with NIC registration, generation and cancellation, and e-invoice verification, per Odoo documentation.
Statutory compliance and filingWe do not offer statutory return filing, IRN e-invoicing, or e-waybill generation. Tax reports exist so your accountant can review and file.Odoo documents Indian E-waybill modules and GST return filing, including GSTR-1, GSTR-2B, and GSTR-3B reports. This is the single biggest functional gap between us.
Payments and collectionsUPI payment capture with a transaction reference, payment-method reports for cash, UPI, card, and credit, payment promises, and receivables raised against the work that caused them. Razorpay payment links from Growth upward.Accounting applications handle bank and payment reconciliation. Verify Indian bank feed and gateway behaviour in your own configuration.
Inventory and manufacturingCommerce area: catalog, stock, warehouses, purchasing, promotions, point-of-sale billing, and day-end reconciliation. No manufacturing or MRP.Inventory, purchase, and point of sale are named in Odoo’s own suite description, and Odoo also publishes manufacturing and MRP applications. Verify current packaging with Odoo.
Multi-company and multi-locationBranches and workspace-scoped permissions in the Platform area, and multiple workspaces on the Agency plan.Odoo’s pricing FAQ describes managing multiple companies on a single database. Verify branch-level permissions and reporting for your structure.
Implementation effortNarrow product, published plans, and a smaller configuration surface. Scope for dedicated deployments is agreed as a quote.Odoo’s own pricing page states that a successful implementation requires analysis, configuration, training, data import, and customisation of business flows.
Support modelDirect support from the NoxOrigin team, with dedicated and customer-branded deployments scoped separately.Unlimited support with cloud hosting on Odoo Online is stated as part of the plans, alongside a worldwide partner ecosystem for implementation work.
Best when NoxOrigin fits

A small team that needs the chain, not the suite

NoxOrigin fits when the work is customer-facing and the failure mode is handoffs. A lead becomes an opportunity, the opportunity becomes a project, the project becomes a quote and an invoice, and the payment lands against the same record. In Odoo those objects exist too, but choosing and configuring the apps that connect them is implementation work you own.

It also fits buyers who want a predictable INR number. Growth at INR 1,600 per month covers ten users, one workspace, fifty active projects, and ten thousand contacts, and the limit is published rather than negotiated seat by seat.

It fits retail and service counters that need GST invoices, UPI capture, stock visibility, and a readable day-end close without a general ledger. That is a contained job, and NoxOrigin is deliberately built for it.

When NoxOrigin is the wrong choice

When compliance, MRP, or self-hosting decides it

Choose Odoo if your accountant expects to file GST returns from inside the software. Odoo documents GSTR-1, GSTR-2B, and GSTR-3B handling and e-waybill modules; we do not offer statutory filing, and no amount of invoicing polish substitutes for it.

Choose Odoo if you manufacture, or if you want the option to self-host and pay nothing per user once the software is on your own servers. Our product is hosted by us only, which is a genuine limitation for organisations with an infrastructure mandate.

Choose Odoo if your IT team wants a large, mature community and an ecosystem of published modules. NoxOrigin is young, its live deployments are few, and we would be misleading you if we suggested otherwise.

Switching

Migration and switching considerations

We have not run a customer migration away from Odoo, so treat this as a description of the work involved rather than a track record.

The database is the real export problem

Odoo stores records in a relational database with app-specific models, so a clean export usually means working through its export and import tooling rather than a spreadsheet. Decide early which fields you actually carry forward, because recreating pipeline history nobody uses is busywork.

Localisation and compliance data does not migrate itself

GSTIN details, tax rates, and any statutory references that lived in Odoo’s Indian modules need to be re-established deliberately in whatever you move to. If your accountant already relies on those reports, agree the replacement before cutover, not after.

Expect a longer rollout than a suite-of-apps tool

Odoo’s own pricing page describes implementation as a project with analysis, configuration, training, and import. Moving away from it usually means scoping a smaller product, so the discipline is in deciding what you are giving up rather than in the data movement.

Keep a parallel billing cycle

Run one complete quote-to-collection cycle in both systems and compare quoted, billed, collected, and outstanding figures before you switch. Our Excel-to-software migration guide covers the same staged approach for teams coming from spreadsheets.

Who should choose which

Match the product to the buyer situation

A twelve-person consultancy that bills for time

Projects, invoices, and collection are visible but disconnected, and nobody wants to run an ERP rollout to fix it. NoxOrigin Growth at INR 1,600 per month with project economics is the proportionate answer. See the consultancy workflow.

A distributor with three branches and real stock

The deciding questions are branch-level permissions, stock transfers, and a close per location. NoxOrigin covers that shape; a suite is heavier than the problem. Review multi-store billing.

A manufacturer whose accountant files returns weekly

Statutory filing, e-way bills, and MRP are the requirements, not the sales pipeline. Odoo is the more defensible choice and we recommend it without reservation. Compare with TallyPrime.

FAQ

Questions buyers ask us first

How does Odoo pricing work per user?

Odoo's published pricing page describes Odoo Online and Odoo.sh as per-user, per-month plans, and it explains a Light User licence that costs less but carries restricted capabilities. It also defines a paying user as someone who can create, view, or edit documents in the backend, while portal users such as customers and suppliers are not paying users. The page states that prices vary by country, so check vendor pricing for the current INR figure rather than relying on a number quoted by a third party.

Does Odoo handle Indian GST compliance?

Yes, and this is where Odoo is stronger than us. Odoo's own documentation for its India fiscal localization lists Indian Accounting, Indian E-invoicing with NIC e-invoice registration, generation and cancellation, Indian E-waybill modules, GST e-invoice verification, and GST return filing including GSTR-1, GSTR-2B, and GSTR-3B reports. NoxOrigin produces GST invoices with CGST, SGST, and IGST splits and tax reports, but we do not claim statutory return filing or IRN e-invoicing.

Can we self-host Odoo and is that cheaper?

Odoo publishes a self-hosted Enterprise option in which you download the software and host it yourself, and its pricing FAQ states that self-hosted usage is free for unlimited users forever. That is a genuine economic advantage for organisations with their own infrastructure team. The tradeoff is that upgrades, backups, security, and localisation configuration become your responsibility, which is a real cost that rarely appears in a licence comparison.

Is NoxOrigin a replacement for an ERP?

No, and we do not claim it is. NoxOrigin is an operating record for customer work: CRM, projects, quotes, GST invoices, payments, collections, and commerce. Events and ticketing are not part of it: that is a scoped Nox-Tickets deployment, quoted separately, and it is not included in Starter, Growth or Agency. It deliberately stops short of general ledger accounting, statutory filing, and manufacturing. Our own product documentation states that the billing product is not a full ERP or enterprise accounting replacement, and we hold to that here.

How long does an Odoo implementation take compared with NoxOrigin?

Odoo's own pricing page states that a successful implementation requires analysis of business needs, configuration, training, data import, and customisation of business flows, which describes a project rather than a setup. NoxOrigin is a narrower product with published plans and a smaller configuration surface. We have not run a timed Odoo-versus-NoxOrigin trial, so treat this as a difference in scope rather than a measured speed claim.

Which one is cheaper for a ten-person Indian team?

On a ten-person team that only needs customer work, invoicing, and collections, published INR plans make NoxOrigin easy to calculate: Growth at INR 1,600 per month covers ten users. The Odoo figure depends on which apps you install, how many users are paying versus light users, and your billing country, so we will not invent one. If you also need manufacturing, statutory filing, or self-hosting, Odoo's economics may be the better answer despite the implementation effort.
